FAQ

Q. can we charter to see the Baths in Virgin Gorda?

A. The Baths are one of the true wonders of the world and a unique water feature to this hemisphere. Unfortunately they are located 22nm upwind as the crow flies and therefore rather out of range for any day sailing charter excursion unless guests wish to pay for significant additional hours to accomplish this far-ranging sailing itinerary. Alternatively, you may choose one of our multi-day excursions or charter our powerboat from the sister company, SaltyDogDaySails.com fleet.

Q. May we bring infants/children and what is the cost?

A.  This is your private boat for the day. We are required to count all passengers, regardless of age by the USCG and therefore we do not offer distinguish by age. You are also welcome to enjoy an adult charter and use our partner babysitting service with enough planning. We find that your group dynamic will best be determined by you, but our company policy is that all ages are welcome on our private charters.

Q. Do we need passports to go to the BVI’s?

A. Many forums may spread vague information about what is required versus what you can get away with when it comes to BVI charters. Our company stance—for your protection as well as for ours—is that all passengers must possess passports for any of our JVD, BVI sailing charters. Although the BVI’s may allow guests in with alternate documents, the US Customs side has the authority to fine the Captain who knowingly allowed guests to travel without passports a fine of up to $5000 per offence and the possible threat of loss of license. this is a risk that no guest should project on the livelihood of another whose career is dedicated to ensuring your safety and fun. Similarly we ALWAYS clear US Customs on the return trip. Other boat companies may chose not to or have some creative interpretation of the law that they can ‘justify’ as legal, but we choose to always act and conduct ourselves professionally in the eyes of all governing authorities. thank you for not asking us to bend these rules.

Q. What are our lunch options?

A.  We always offer a for-purchase lunch stop or catering option for full day trips. as the range of options is quite vast we provide you with the itinerary specific choices and costs at the time of booking: $-$$$ which can include lunch ashore at Soggy Dollar Bar, Hendo’s or Foxy’s at JVD, Sunset Grill at Secret Harbor St Thomas, PizzaPi at Christmas Cove or catered deli lunch served aboard. For groups of 6 or less we also offer chef-prepared meal options per our menu with per plate fees of $35-55/p. email us for more information.

Q. May we depart later and stay out for sunset as part of a full day charter rate?

A.  We are happy to customize any charter package for a fee. We often host sunset sails after our day sail charter guests disembark so to customize for a later departure to accommodate a sunset addition for your group negates the ability for us to offer an additional sail that day. Therefore we add an additional sunset fee to any existing charter if the total hours work out to be the same and if it ends up being an actual extension of the day then the extra hours are also billed by the hour in addition to the sunset add-on for this premium time slot that normally books for $1350 as a solo offering.

Q. what do we do if the weather is not nice the day of our scheduled trip?

A.  We are incredibly lucky with weather in the Virgin Islands and find sailing conditions to be exceptionally good about 360/365 days a year. we do not cancel for rain or seasonally normal conditions wind/seas/rain forecast. We only cancel for safety considerations. should the forecast not be to your liking, we are happy to carry over your reservation to another available day if our schedule permits. Trip reservations are valid for rescheduling for up to 90 days.
